The whole point of our road trip was to celebrate our second wedding anniversary. We planned to be at a fancy resort in Jacó, a beautiful beach town, to make it memorable. It was definitely memorable – just not in the way we had envisioned.
I woke up the morning of August 21 and found a lovely card. My man has a way with words.
Then, we decided to spend the day lounging at the private beach behind our hotel. Just for kicks, this was the view from our hotel room at Villa Caletas.
We had the option of taking a Jeep down there or hiking down. Being the adventurous couple we are, we decided to hike down. I’d read reviews about it and everyone said it was worth the trip. What they didn’t say was that the trail was pretty much vertical is some areas.
Fortunately, I didn’t fall (though I came close) but ST almost stepped on a giant snake. Against all odds we managed to make it down safe and sound. I wasn’t out of danger yet; even though I made it through the muddy, nearly vertical wilderness of that hike, I couldn’t walk and talk at the same time – I stepped into a ditch and fell and scraped the crap out of my shins.
IT WAS REALLY PAINFUL. A bit of the white powdery concrete got into the cuts and all I could do was wail, “IS THAT MY BONE?!” It took ST a few minutes to convince me that my shin bone was not poking through my skin.
I cried like a little baby. For twenty minutes.
I spent the rest of the afternoon nursing my wounds and napping while ST explored the beach.
Here’s what my shins look like today. Thankfully, the scars have faded but they’re still bumpy.
Later that night, we took a short walk, went out to dinner at Lemon Zest in downtown Jacó, and called it a night.
